Electric Boats & Ships: Markets & Technologies Update

This IDTechEx premium article provides an update on electric leisure boating and electric ship markets in 2022. Drivers and data behind the recent surge in leisure boating sales are explained, with breakdowns by power class and commentary on future expectations. In the commercial and industrial (C&I) shipping sector, ferries have long been the low hanging fruit and remain the most common electric vessel type in-service, but regulations are driving change. Behemoth battery packs installed on a small number of giant sea-going vessels are expected to take over and dominate maritime battery demand within ten years.

AI to Help Autonomous Vehicles Avoid Idling at Red Lights

AI to Help Autonomous Vehicles Avoid Idling at Red Lights

No one likes sitting at a red light. But signalized intersections aren't just a minor nuisance for drivers; vehicles consume fuel and emit greenhouse gases while waiting for the light to change. What if motorists could time their trips so they arrive at the intersection when the light is green? While that might be just a lucky break for a human driver, it could be achieved more consistently by an autonomous vehicle that uses artificial intelligence to control its speed.
