IDTechEx Show! Features Winning Solar Racing Car

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 01, 2016 - A popular conception is that gas vehicles will eventually give way to plug in electric vehicles. IDTechEx Research sees a different end game.

Electric vehicles will ultimately move towards being completely energy independent - harvesting all the energy they need from the light, wind, vibration and heat around them.

So-called Energy Independent Vehicles are making great strides, and none so much as the Nuna Solar Racing car, which has won the Bridgestone World Solar Racing competition six out of eight times since 2001, crossing over 3000 km (1,860 miles) in Australia, powered wholly by the solar panels across its structure. At each contest the vehicle is replaced and improved, evolving from the year before with new technology.

The car also won the SASOL Solar Challenge in South Africa twice out two times in participation. In this event the electric vehicle covered 4500 km.

The vehicle is now being brought to the US for the first time and will be unveiled at the IDTechEx Show! (www.idtechex.com/usa ), Nov. 16-17 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. The event brings together technology innovations that are addressing the world's biggest problems, from energy harvesting to autonomous vehicles to skin-like flexible electronics to pervasive sensors. Presentations also include insights from Toyota, Porsche, Nissan, BYD, Ford, Panasonic, Siemens, NASA and over 200 other leading global companies.

The Nuna Solar racing car is arguably one of the most energy efficient electric vehicles in the world, with a skin of photovoltaics and a partly 3D printed body. The ongoing development innovation has led to five companies being spun out so far from the Nuon team who developed it.

Raghu Das, CEO of IDTechEx, the analyst and events firm organizing IDTechEx Show! reports, "Showing the world's most efficient electric vehicle for the first time in the US is hugely exciting, particularly in Silicon Valley which is becoming a new center for mobility transformation thanks to new technologies and new business models."

"The IDTechEx Show! will cover the transformative new technologies enabling electric vehicles and ultimately energy independent vehicles ranging including super lightweighting, structural electronics, energy harvesting, energy storage innovations and vehicle designs."

Attendees to the IDTechEx Show! will be able to see the vehicle and meet the Nuon Solar team, in addition to meeting an estimated 200 exhibitors and over 3,000 attendees. See www.idtechex.com/usa for full details.
