Approximately 3,500 attendees from 42 countries attended the IDTechEx Show!, which featured 284 exhibiting organizations. The event, held in Santa Clara, California, is unique in bringing together eight key technologies with the organizations that seek to use them.

IDTechEx is one of the few market and technical research companies following marine electrification as part of its wider electric vehicle research -- and it is a segment quietly undergoing a transformation. The marine industry makes significant contributions to global pollution (particularly ocean-going vessels), often out of the spotlight. But in the past decade, regulations that have first focused on restricting particulates emissions, and more recently carbon emissions, are driving change.

This coming November 14-15 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, leading players in the battery and energy storage industry will compete to capture the audience's attention over what technology is set to dominate in the coming decade.

IDTechEx attended Aluminium 2018 at the Düsseldorf Messe, Germany. This event reaches nearly 30,000 attendees and covers the complete aluminium supply chain.

Many consider drones as flying sensors. Indeed, nearly all applications of drones reply on some type of sensors, be it a simple camera to a complex hyperspectral or LIDAR sensor. In addition, drones are becoming more navigational autonomous.

With global electric vehicle sales hitting 4 million this summer, increasing attention has been paid to the end-of-life issues of EV batteries. Recycling the batteries to recover the raw materials seems to be the default solution. However, after their first life as powertrain for electric cars, the batteries could still hold 70-80% of their initial capacity which can be further utilised in second-life applications such as stationary energy storage before being recycled.

The uptake of STEM subjects by women and other minorities is crucial for myriad reasons, for instance boosting economic activity and closing the pay gender gap, to name but two.
