Why farming is going electric

Soltrak in California USA has created a range of pure electric tractors and other mobile farm equipment where the lead acid batteries provide useful weight for traction. Others are beginning to offer pure electric and hybrid electric tugs and even bulldozers from Caterpillar.

Fiat Group, with its New Holland and other agricultural vehicle divisions is actively working on electrification as are many others. Soltrak provides thin film solar panels to go in the fields, on farm buildings and so on to charge its farm vehicles.
