Most manufacturers of EVs and their components are pursuing the obvious. The result is excessive competition and a considerable chance of failure. For example, our analysis has shown that there are far too many suppliers of pure electric cars, electric bicycles, traction motors with brushes, lead acid batteries, basic lithium-ion traction batteries, range extenders based on existing engines and basic charging stations. On the other hand, there are a host of new hybrid and pure electric vehicles and components for them that will soon be selling in volume, garnering excellent profits for the few that are taking an interest. Indeed, in the bad sectors, over 90% of suppliers can be loss making, on our figures, and in the good ones over 90% can be profitable.
IDTechEx analyses the whole market in its unique technical-marketing reports on the subject. We reflect the fact that cars will be under half the global market value in each of the next ten years and the profits made in the car sector, including their components, will be an even smaller percentage.
The unprecedented scope of IDTechEx reports on EVs and their components and subsystems is shown below. No one else comes close. The IDTechEx electric vehicle team also provide technical, market and business consultancy on all forms of EV and EV component to companies as small as startups up to some of the world's largest companies. We also host the world's only events covering all electric vehicles - land, water, air and hybrid as well as pure electric.
